Comic-Con 2010: Final Round-Up of Another Fantastic Year!

Another Comic-Con come and gone, but another unforgettable year it was. Mainly because there’s not much going on this Saturday (it’s so much quieter!), I wanted to provide you guys with one final recap of all of our coverage of Comic-Con 2010, from our live blogs and coverage of the panels, to a few interviews and some viral events, to poster and photo reveals, and lots more. This year I brought both Ethan and Tim and the two helped provide all this great coverage, which you can find below (including Tim’s Golden Briefcase episode). I also want to say that Tron Legacy (photo above) stole the show again and was my highlight of this year.

Con Coverage:
» We covered a few panels LIVE this year: Disney’s Tron Legacy panel, the Warner Bros morning panel (Green Lantern, Harry Potter, Sucker Punch), and Marvel’s epic final panel (Captain America, Thor, The Avengers) that ended the Con with a bang.

» Other panels that we covered with separate articles include: our first look at Battle: Los Angeles, a hilarious panel for Warren Ellis’ RED with Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren, the return of Nicolas Cage for Drive Angry 3D, an awesome unveiling of footage from Universal’s Skyline, an early look at James Gunn’s superhero comedy Super, impressive footage debuts at Matt Reeves’ Let Me In panel, a hilarious sizzle reel and Q&A with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost from Paul, and an early look at Guillermo del Toro’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, which gave all of Hall H quite a scare.

» We also got a taco made by Danny Trejo at the Machete taco truck event on Thursday night.

» Paul Giamatti and David Fincher made surprise appearances at the panel for Eric Powell’s The Goon animated adaptation, which looks awesome (and they need all the support they can get!).

» Ethan, Alex and Tim recorded a few video blogs this year: one for Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens, which rocked the Con with an appearance by Harrison Ford; another for Matt Reeves’ Let Me In which was impressive; and one big one for all the Thor and Captain America footage shown at Marvel’s panel.

» We covered two great virals: the reveal of the End of Line club for Tron Legacy; and the appearance of Rocket Poppeteers Ice Cream Trucks secretly for J.J. Abram’s upcoming sci-fi movie Super 8.

» The Golden Briefcase podcast host Tim Buel attended the Con and recorded a new episode talking about all things Comic-Con 2010 with guest Cole Abaius from FSR.

» Finally, Alex got to see Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World at a special screening and totally loved it. He wrote up a quick review to tell everyone how awesome it was.

News / Announcements:
A few bits of news and announcements were made during the Con which we wrote about, including:

» A new viral alien invasion website launch for Battle: Los Angeles.

» Brad Pitt getting officially cast to star in Marc Forster’s adaptation of zombie novel World War Z, in the works for 2012+.

» Guillermo del Toro first being announced as the director of, then later getting corrected as only the writer/producer of, Disney’s new reboot of The Haunted Mansion, based on the spooky Disneyland them park ride.

» Marvel announced the complete line-up for The Avengers on-stage, also confirming that Joss Whedon would be directing.

» To top off The Avengers news, Whedon explains why he chose to cast Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk in his upcoming ensemble superhero team-up movie, due out in 2012.

» Marvel also launched three teaser websites (with nothing but a logo) for their three big upcoming movies – Thor, Captain America, The Avengers – which you can find links for in our most recent Marvel report.

Photo / Poster Debuts:
» As is our tradition, we featured big photo articles from the Preview Night Showfloor and Closing Day Showfloor, as there’s always lots of cool stuff to find out there at Comic-Con.

» On the way up to the Con, we featured two awesome new banners with artwork for Marvel’s Thor and Captain America. They were both printed as posters and given away at the Con.

» Another new photo of Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder Thor debuted during the Con.

» A beautiful hand-drawn poster for the Guillermo del Toro produced Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark debuted as well.

» Matt Reeves’ remake of Let the Right One In, titled Let Me In (which looks really, really good), got two new stunning teaser posters at the Con – the first one here and the second one here.

» Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch got six new character banners for each of the sexy girls in it and a full anime-like banner.

» Legendary Pictures unveiled a first look at the new Godzilla on some sneaky shirts they handed out.

» Warner Bros unveiled four badass character posters for DC Comics’ Green Lantern movie that together state: “In brightest day, in blackest night. No evil shall escape my sight.”

» And finally, we provide another photo recap of the Tron Legacy viral this year which took fans through Flynn’s Arcade again and into the virtual End of Line Club straight out of the movie. What an amazing experience!

Speculation / Buzz:
Finally, although the Con came to an end quickly (five days go by very quick when you’re actually there) there was still some interesting stuff we discovered and wrote about after. Here’s a few more bits & pieces.

» We found the Infinity Gauntlet from the Marvel Universe fully built and on-display on the showfloor.

» Screenwriters Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci talk about writing and working with Harrison Ford on Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens, which is currently shooting in New Mexico for release next summer.

» We posted a few quotes of actor Mark Ruffalo talking about what it’s like to now be the Hulk in The Avengers movie. Will he be able to pull off a good Bruce Banner? Is he a better or worse replacement for Edward Norton? So many questions that we’ll have to wait to find out until the summer of 2012!

» Lastly, some late speculation as another t-shirt given out by Legendary Pictures included Guillermo del Toro’s signature on the back and a photo of a conquistador called El Guerrero. What is this for and what is del Toro now attached to at Legendary? Anyone?

That’s it for this year’s Comic-Con, but we’ll definitely be returning next year and we’re already planning our strategy for even better and even more coverage coming in 2011.
