Antoine Fuqua / Consent to Kill

No he’s not moving from the director’s chair to a sniper’s perch, but Variety says director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Tears of the Sun) will direct the spy thriller Consent to Kill for DiBonaventura Pictures. Though the films logline is being kept under wraps we can gather some semblance of a story from the 2005 Vince Flynn novel of the same name on which the Jonathan Lemkin written script is based on. It follows counter-terrorism agent Mitch Rapp who’s battling a Saudi billionaire, an ex-East German Stasi spy and a husband-and-wife team of assassins, all while dealing with a knee injury. Must be one hell of a knee injury.

Rapp is essentially Flynn’s version of Jack Ryan, so this very well could become a franchise. This would be something new for Fuqua who most recently directed Brooklyn’s Finest which was lukewarmly received at Sundance last year and is currently on schedule for a March release (watch the trailer). In addition, Fuqua is also set to direct Prisoners, the #4 script on 2009’s Black List set to be produced by Warner Bros. which is rumored to have Hugh Jackman attached as well. But with no official development on Prisoners, it sounds like Consent to Kill just might be his next. We’ll keep our ears open, so stay tuned for further developments.
