Although we know the Jason Bourne franchise, originally based on Robert Ludlum novels, is currently dead, that doesn’t mean Hollywood isn’t mining the Ludlum archives for more story ideas. Pajiba reports that big time producer Frank Marshall will be directing an adaptation of a series of books called the Covert One series, which weren’t actually written by Ludlum himself, but were put together “by several other authors, in conjunction with Ludlum.” They don’t have many details yet or anything to report, but do say that it’s setup at Universal with Captivate Entertainment (who has most of the Ludlum feature film rights) developing it.
The Covert-One book series features a team of political & technical experts, belonging to a top-secret U.S. agency called Covert-One, who fight corruption and conspiracy at the highest and most dangerous levels of society. The first book, The Hades Factor, was actually adapted into a CBS miniseries back in 2006, but I don’t even remember hearing about it. Although Frank Marshall is probably best known as a producer, he previously directed Arachnophobia, Alive, Congo, and Eight Below in 2006, but nothing since then. This sounds like it could be pretty fun, so we’ll make sure to keep you updated on whatever we hear. Stay tuned!
