Inception Viral Gets Confusing with TV Commercials & Posters
There seems to be a lot going on with the Inception viral… that no one knows about. Over this weekend, I received a few emails from readers linking me to a Yahoo Answers page where someone said they caught a commercial on TV early in the morning that said “Prevent Mind Crime” (and other stuff) with directions to text a word to a number. I’ve never seen this and can’t find a video of it, so no one has talked about it yet. But then our friends at Screen Rant just snapped a photo of some new posters (see above) slapped up on the streets in Chicago that seem to be a continuation of the TV commercials with more “Mind Crime” mentions.
So what the heck is going on with the Inception viral? Everything seems to be getting more confusing every week, not heading towards an end result in the last month before the movie hits theaters. Everything we’ve seen from this viral so far, including the PASIV Device shirt and website and the Dream-Share Manual that Wired received, have all just pointed to the Mind Crime website: mind-crime.com. There’s a flash game there that has revealed posters and so on, but apparently that’s all this viral is – a bunch of media that points to a flash game on a website. Is there more? What do all these commercial and Mind Crime posters mean?
The viral posters found in Chicago go hand-in-hand with the messages in the commercials. Apparently those spots say something like: “Did you know the government can access your mind?” The posters say “Thought Theft is Real” and “Protect Your Thoughts” with a QR code that links to: whatisdreamshare.com. Apparently the response you receive from the TV spots when you text that number is a link to that same new blog. But that site looks awful and contains no helpful info besides a few confusing blog posts about “What is Dream Share?” Let’s hope they update soon with more details, or else this will all be for nothing in the end.
Whoever is running this viral really needs to clear things up and provide the participants with some better direction and a clearer end result, hopefully within the next two months. People are saying things like “I’m just as confused as all of you” and no one really knows what all of this means. This isn’t helping Inception at all, unlike The Dark Knight viral which was hugely successful. Sure it’s cool to see them branching out with commercials and real world “dream stealing” media, but all it’s doing is causing more confusion.
