James Cameron is Working on Another Sci-Fi Action Movie?
Yes, I know, there are only 9 days left until James Cameron’s Avatar finally hits theaters, so this may be part of the big hype machine, but there could be some truth to it. Late last night, Production Weekly posted a rather interesting Twitter stating simply: “James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an ‘event’ film set in the future.” Salerno previously wrote Armageddon, Shaft, and AVP: Requiem and has a lot of other scripts floating around. Could this really be Cameron’s next project? Or is it just another project that he’s setting up following Avatar? What else does he have lined up?
We’re probably going to be hearing a lot about what Cameron’s planning “next” after Avatar over the next few months. Of course there’s the inevitable Avatar sequel, which we may or may not see depending on what happens on December 18th. Then there’s also Battle Angel, based on Yukito Kishiro’s graphic novels, about a female cyborg that is rescued from a scrapheap by a scientist in the 26th century. And we’ve heard about Cameron also potentially being involved with the Forbidden Planet remake as well as some 3D diving drama. Considering it is James Cameron, he can direct just about anything he wants, whether it be a script he found in his drawer or almost anything else. Though I’ve got to say, we could always use more sci-fi!
