Sony Pictures Classics has finally debuted the official US trailer for Jacques Audiard’s A Prophet, better known as Un Prophete in French, on Apple. This film is, hands down, my favorite foreign film of 2009. Watching this trailer reminds me how phenomenal it is and makes me wish I could see it again this week. I’ve already seen it a few times (at different festivals) and it’s such an phenomenal film. I’ve described it to others as a modern day version of Scarface but set in a French prison about a young illiterate inmate’s rise to power. There’s so much more than that, though, so take my word for it and start by watching this trailer.

Un Prophete, aka A Prophet in English, is directed by French filmmaker Jacques Audiard, of See How They Fall, A Self-Made Hero, Read My Lips, and The Beat That My Heart Skipped previously. The script for this was originally written by Abdel Raouf Dafri and Nicolas Peufaillit, then later revised by Audiard and Thomas Bidegain.
