Nolan’s Dark Knight Rises Talks About Giving Role To Marion Cotillard
So it looks like it’s pretty much confirmed. Over the weekend I found some old fan-art made after TDK for the next “sequel” that had Anne Hathaway playing Batgirl – lo and behold that sort of turned out to be true. One of the other names listed in the fictional credits was Marion Cotillard, the lovely French actress who plays Cobb’s crazy wife in Inception (and won an Oscar for La Vie en Rose). Over this past weekend, French newspaper Le Figaro reported that Cotillard had been cast in The Dark Knight Rises, quite big news. But we wanted to wait for extra confirmation and THR now has it. Her reps confirm she that is “in discussions.”
The original French article basically said that Cotillard, now pregnant with French actor Guillaume Canet’s baby, was only going to shoot one movie this year and decided that it would be Dark Knight Rises for Chris Nolan. THR confirms that she’s “discussing scheduling issues” but, of course, I’m sure she’ll work this out. No word on her role, but some are guessing that it might be Talia al Ghul – Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter – even though she seems a little too old for that role. Nolan has said there would be two female leads in TDKR, and with Hathaway taking one, this might be the other, maybe even a villain. I think Cotillard is a very talented actress and I’d be happy with her in this, though mostly because I have complete faith in Nolan. Thoughts?
And in related news, Empire also talked briefly with Nolan, who confirmed that they’re in pre-production on TDKR now and currently about 10-weeks away from shooting, so everything is definitely moving quickly.

Rumored Roles For The Dark Knight Rises.
All the other blogs are reporting it’s a slow news week so far so let’s toss around some rumored names for Christopher Nolan’s recently titled sequel The Dark Knight Rises. It’s been mentioned elsewhere previously that Nolan has been meeting with actresses to take a lead female role in the anticipated franchise sequel. Obviously since Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal) won’t return, at least one female lead role needs to show up, but a new rumor has two major female roles looking to be cast. Comic Book Movie reports Charlize Theron is being considered for one while Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) and Kacie Thomas (The Burning Plain) are up for the second. Read on!
Theron is apparently up for the role of Detective Sarah Essen, a love interest for Commissioner Jim Gordon. In the comics, Essen is partnered with Gordon and they begin a romantic affair. Theron seems a little young for Gordon, but maybe they’ll be changing the way she interacts with Gordon. Of course, there’s always the change this is simply a red herring and maybe Theron is up for playing Catwoman. I’m not at all against seeing Theron in some tight leather outfits.
Meanwhile, Farmiga and Thomas are both up for the role of Julie Madison, a love interest for Bruce Wayne. In the comics, Madison was a socialite once engaged to Bruce Wayne and thought she was unaware of his being Batman, she was used as a pawn by the vampiric villain Monk in his battle against the Caped Crusader. While the roles are certainly possibilities, these are definitely rumors at this point, and likely these characters could end up having a completely different impact on the story in the film than they have previously had on the comic books. We’ll likely be hearing some official casting for The Dark Knight Rises soon enough so stay tuned.

Batman 3 The Dark Knight Rises
And here we go… Our good friend Geoff Boucher of Hero Complex got on the phone with Christopher Nolan recently and got a big update straight from the man himself. The third Batman movie will be officially titled The Dark Knight Rises as his follow-up and epic conclusion to the fantastically unforgettable The Dark Knight from 2008. Nolan confirmed a few other things as well: that it won’t be in 3D, that he will shoot with high def and IMAX cameras (again) instead, and that the villain is not Riddler nor will Harvey Dent be back at all. So there you have it, now we know the title and a bit more about where he’s going with this. Read on!
“We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones,” Nolan told him. Not many more details were revealed in today’s Hero Complex update, but I did see Geoff Boucher mention something interesting over on his Facebook account that links to this article: “Hugo Strange and Catwoman now jump to the top of the list.” So Nolan ruled out Riddler, Joker and Harvey Dent, and after talking with Nolan, Boucher thinks it might be Hugo Strange (is this Tom Hardy’s role?) and/or Catwoman who will show up as the big villains in this one. Only time will tell, right? Either way, now we know that it’s The Dark Knight Rises that will be hitting theaters on July 20th 2012. Bring it on! Everyone else excited?

Check These Out: Four New Stills from Chris Nolan’s Inception
We don’t know when the next trailer for Chris Nolan’s Inception will be arriving (I’m guessing sometime early this summer?), so to hold you over, we’re featuring these four new photos that have popped up various places over the last few days. SlashFilm culled them all together and cleaned them up a bit, so I owe them some thanks. Coincidentally we last featured four new photos from Inception just last week, so it looks like they keep hitting in batches of four. Seen in these photos are Leonardo DiCaprio as Cobb, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Arthur, and Ellen Page as Ariadne. I think a few of them were found in the Mind Crime viral game.

If you haven’t seen them, watch the first teaser trailer and second teaser trailer for Inception at those links. We’ll definitely let you know whenever any trailers show up online for Inception, so stay tuned right here!
Inception is both written and directed by acclaimed Oscar nominated British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, of Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight. Nolan previously co-wrote the scripts for Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight with his brother Jonathan Nolan. Warner Bros is bringing Inception to theaters starting on July 16th this summer. See you all in theaters!
